Sitecore Learning Resources

As a new Sitecore digital marketer or developer, learning the the do’s and don’ts can be daunting. This article contains several paid and free resources available to you.

Certification and Official Training – Mostly Paid

Sitecore Training – Official training and certifications. Self-paced digital learning and instructor-led training are available for marketers, content editors, and developers.

The developer training is uniquely important as only certified developers can submit support tickets. Please contact your Sitecore directly for any specific questions.

Sitecore Documentation

Sitecore Documentation – Covers anything from installation and scaling to creating marketing goals in the marketing control panel. Some more specific areas of interest:

  • Managed Cloud – A Sitecore hosting option. The documentation details the different offerings, topologies, SLA’s, etc.
  • Container Developer Experience – Sitecore 10 formally ships with container support. As someone with no previous container experience, I appreciated the detailed explanation of the docker scripts.
  • Sitecore Experience Accelerator (SXA) – An optional module empowering business users and, in my experience, significantly reducing development work.

Sitecore JavaScript Services (JSS) Documentation – JSS is Sitecore’s headless optional module. This includes a how-to approach for getting started and recommended practices. JavaScript frameworks supported at the time of this writing are React, Vue, and Angular.

Sitecore Helix Documentation– “Sitecore Helix is a collection of recommended practices and conventions for the solution architecture of Sitecore product implementations,” as stated on the site. All examples and future development should really follow these practices.

Sitecore Knowledge Base – Known issues, security bulletins, compatibility tables, and support SLA’s.

Discover Sitecore YouTube channel – Videos from industry experts. (Formerly known as Master Sitecore channel) Notable contents include:

  • Catching Up with JSS
  • SXA Tutorials
  • Docker and Containers

Sitecore Support – Submit your product support and managed cloud tickets.

Non-Sitecore Resources

Sitecore StackExchange – A Sitecore-specific StackExchange for developer Q&A.

Getting Started with Sitecore Helix – A great Pluralsight course for first time developers using Helix.

Slack Channel – Anyone who does Sitecore development should be in the Sitecore Slack channel. It is a community managed group with thousands experienced folks who are customers, partners, and Sitecore even employees.

  • There are quite a few bloggers out there who write about their experiences with Sitecore, myself included. Many of these can be found through the #blogfeed channel in Slack. If you are a Sitecore blogger, make sure you get yours added to this feed by contacting an Admin.

Social Media

One of the best ways to stay up-to-date with things like product releases and how-to articles is following Sitecore on your favorite social media platforms.

Downloads and Code

Sitecore Downloads – Product downloads and release notes.

Sitecore GitHub – Sitecore’s official GitHub account with docker images, Azure quickstart templates, demo sites, etc

Sitecore Marketplace – A good starting place to find community-contributed modules built for the Sitecore platform.

The internet is a large place. I know there are other great resources out there, but these are the ones I use most often in my day-to-day as a solution architect. Feel free to share your favorites in the comments!
